Johnson Field

Johnson Field, which opened as the home of Yale Field Hockey in the spring of 2001, has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years.

Multi-million dollar improvements in the summer of 2022 – combined with the addition of Carol McPhillips Roberts Field House in 2018 – place the Bulldogs' complex among the best in the country. A newly installed video scoreboard, named after Yale Field Hockey Association President Lorraine Pratte Lewis '78, is one of the few in the nation and spans more than 35 feet long. Another notable improvement is a new state-of-the-art turf field. The field now features six automatic irrigation heads, bringing the watering process from three hours down to minutes.

Carol McPhillips Roberts Field House gives the Bulldogs a comprehensive space right next to the field with locker rooms, a training room, a satellite coaches' office, a team meeting space and a second-story observation roof deck featuring a glass-walled event space.

The 750-seat complex sits adjacent to DeWitt Family Field, the home of Yale Softball. Stadium seating for Johnson Field is along the west side of the complex. On the opposite, or east, side of the field there is a berm lined with trees.

The field is lighted for night play with a sports lighting system capable of providing a minimum of 50 foot-candles over the entire playing field. The system provides for glare and spill control, thereby only lighting the playing field and not the surrounding areas.

Johnson Field also served as the home of Yale Women's Lacrosse from 2000 through 2008.
